Aspire Vocal Competition Rules & Regulations

Registration

  • All registrations must be completed through Aspire’s online system. Phone, email, or mail-in registrations are not accepted.

  • Singers must register for the full 2–3 day workshop to compete. Attendance without competing is permitted.

  • Registrations are non-refundable and processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Capacity limits apply per venue.

  • Early registration is strongly encouraged to secure a spot.

Studio Deposits

  • Studios registering multiple performers must submit a non-refundable deposit at registration. Balances are due 30 days prior to the event.

  • Deposit tiers:

    • 1–2 routines: Register as Independent

    • 3–6 routines: $500

    • 6–10 routines: $750

    • 11+ routines: $1,000

Registration Limits

  • Studios with 10+ singers may register up to 25 routines. Additional routines may be requested depending on venue capacity.

  • Singers may compete in only one solo per genre per event.

Independent Registrations

  • Singers may register independently without studio affiliation. Full payment is required at registration.

On-Site Registration

  • Workshop registration at the door is based on availability. Competition entries cannot be guaranteed on-site.

  • On-site payments must be made via cash or credit card. Personal checks are not accepted within 30 days of the event.

Scholarships

  • Scholarships must be verified by Aspire’s production team and applied at checkout. Scholarships applied after payment will result in a credit for future events.

Payment

  • Studios paying by check or cashier’s check before the 30-day early deadline receive a discount. Notification of payment method must be made in advance.

  • Registrations must be paid in full before event schedules, competition orders, and studio packets are released.

  • Returned checks incur a $35 fee.

Workshops

  • Workshop schedules vary by city and are posted 7 days before the event.

  • Age divisions may be combined for classes, but scholarship auditions remain separate.

  • Faculty assignments vary by city.

Competition

  • Aspire competitions provide a supportive environment for singers to showcase talent and receive constructive feedback.

  • Aspire staff and venues may record video and photos for promotional use.

  • Singers unable to complete a performance will be scored on what is presented. Re-performances are adjudication-only.

  • All competing singers must be registered for the full workshop.

  • Aspire reserves the right to disqualify routines violating rules, including inappropriate content, unauthorized props, or exceeding time limits.

Audience & Access

  • Competitions and closing shows are open to guardians and friends of registered singers at no cost.

Dressing Rooms

  • Aspire will provide Female, Male, and Gender Neutral dressing rooms when possible. Dressing rooms are not rehearsal spaces. No photo or video is allowed inside.

Scheduling

  • Event schedules are published at least 7 days prior. Competitions may begin Friday afternoon. Requests for schedule adjustments must be made at registration.

Fees

  • Solos: $125

  • Duets/Trios: $95

  • Small Groups (4–9 performers): $75

  • Large Groups (10–19 performers): $65

  • Master Class: $50–65

  • Title: $50

Age Divisions

  • Shooting Stars: 7–9

  • Junior: 10–12

  • Teen: 13–15

  • Senior: 16–18

  • Adult: 18+

  • Ages are calculated as of January 1. Proof of age may be requested.

Time Limits

  • Solo: 3 minutes

  • Duet/Trio: 4 minutes

  • Small Group: 5 minutes

  • Large Group: 6 minutes

  • Grace periods apply (5 seconds for solos, 30 seconds for groups). Extended time may be purchased for groups.

Performance Entries

  • Entries must align with the genre most represented:

    • Pop

    • Classical

    • Opera

    • Musical Theater

  • Production routines may include multiple genres, extended time, or large props and will be entered into the Production Division.

Music Requirements

  • Music must be uploaded via online registration at least one week before the event. USB drives may be used as backup.

Scoring & Adjudication

  • Technical Execution: 30%

  • Vocal Interpretation: 30%

  • Performance Quality: 20%

  • Overall Impression: 20%

Adjudication Levels

  • Ultimate Platinum: 291–300

  • Platinum: 280–290

  • High Gold: 265–279

  • Gold: 250–264

Awards

  • Adjudicated Awards: All routines receive placement based on scoring.

  • Overall Awards: High score winners recognized per age division and category.

  • Genre Awards: Highest scoring routine per genre awarded.

  • Special Awards: Heartstopper, Judge’s Pick, Versatility, Sportsmanship, and Wildcard Showcase.

Props

  • Props must be set up and removed within 2 minutes. Extended setup (up to 5 minutes) may be purchased.

  • Restrictions apply to size, weight, and materials. Dangerous props, live animals, fog machines, pyrotechnics, and prohibited substances are not allowed.

  • Studios are responsible for setup, removal, and cleanup of props.
